PHILOSOPHY and
OBJECTIVES
The Chol-Chol Foundation is a non-profit development organization that seeks to provide active alternatives for change in the Ninth Region of Chile, an area unique in its geographic and human composition.
The Foundation, an entity without religious or political affiliation, brings adult education projects to rural Mapuche communities that focus on hands-on training, practical and theoretical classes, aids in product commercialization, and organizational skills.
It opens doors to beneficiaries through increased awareness about possibilities for family income, medical issues, legal rights and women’s rights. It hopes to establish a rapport with participants that will promote a culturally sound integration into Chilean and global society, along with a diminishment of the Mapuche’s distrust of the outside world.
The educational programs themselves emphasize training in practical areas which, paired with financial and technical support to beneficiaries, are aimed at the achievement of a self-sustainable development which will empower the beneficiary to preserve and improve his or her own cultural, personal, and natural environment.
The Foundation is at present elaborating plans to build a new educational and demonstration farm complex, allowing all its programs to be expanded in the hope that our objectives can be consolidated and realistically achieved.
