1997
Flower Cultivation – Nueva Imperial
Financed by the Largo Caballero Foundation (Spain)
This project investigated the feasibility of flower growing as a significant income for small plot
farmers. Flower species planted included lillies, gladioli and tulips along with high quality seeds and bulbs from
Holland. The farmers received constant technical assistance in cultivation and later in the commercialisation of flowers in local
markets.
Forestry with small plot farmers in the Ninth Region
Financed by Manos Unidas (Spain), the
Andes Foundation (Chile) and the International Foundation (USA)
This project provided supervision and technical support for the Foundation’s tree nursery. The nursery currently has over five hundred thousand Pine and Eucalyptus seedlings destined for Mapuche beneficiaries
plantations.
Cultivating and Planting Native Forest in the IX region of Chile
Financed by D.E.D (Germany Embassy in Chile)
This project aims to help increase the quantity of native trees in this
region, trees which are environmentally far more beneficial, as well as being trees which bear fruit both for human and animal
consumption. During 1997-1998 approximately 150 beneficiaries were given
trees.
Acquisiton of and Training in the Use of Traditional Spinning Wheels and Looms
Financed by D.E.D (Germany Embassy in Chile) and the I.A Foundation (USA)
Artisans from two of the Chol-Chol women’s groups each received a rueca, a traditional Mapuche spinning
wheel, which greatly augment production capabilities and decrease the time required for each
textile.
Rucapangue Demonstration Farm
Financed by A.C.T.E.C (Belguim) and the Andes Foundation (Chile)
This project provided finnace for the farm’s greenhouses, pastures and agricultural fields which serve as a base for the Foundation’s technical assistance
programs. The farm´s training center, with a capacity to house, feed and educate up to 25 beneficiaries during extended
workshops.
Contribution to the Development of the Mapuche Family Through the Organization and Training of the Woman
Financed by the Andes Foundation (Chile) and the
Kellogg Foundation (USA)
The objective of this project was to provide technical aid and training to 200 women with the aim of strengthening the role she plays in the Mapuche
family, through
training in family health, organisational and leadership skills, vegetable and flower production and the preparation and conservation of food and traditional weaving
techniques.
Mapuche Textile Exhibitions
Financed by the Andes Foundation (Chile) and the
Kellogg Foundation (USA)
The Foundation has embarked on a series of craft exhibitions, which brought textiles, Foundation Staff and beneficiaries to Santiago, the Northern city of Antofagasta and various other locales throughout Chile.

Weaving a Better Way of Life
Advanced Textile Courses in Rural Mapuche Communities
Financed by the Daniele Agostino Foundation (USA)
The aim of this project was to provide the 210 women with the skills and implements that will allow them to augment their textile production and consequently augment their standard of living.
1999
Micro-Production in Rural Women´s Groups
Production and Commercialization of Eggs
Financed by the International Foundation (USA) and The Canadian Embassy (Chile)
This project aims to introduce a type of chicken to four rural communities which, when properly managed, lays eggs throughout 95% of the year, as opposed to the present rustic chicken which lays during only four months of the year.
Construction of a classroom for Educational Sessions with Adult Rural Mapuches
Financed by the British Embassy (Chile)
The goal of this project was to provide a classroom which would be used for training sessions and seminars, facilitating education in agricultural techniques, forestry management, handicraft production, social issues, etc.
2000
Training Mapuche Women in the Production and Commercialization of Homemade Jams, Pickles and Sauces.
Financed by The Daniele Agostino Foundation (USA) and The British Embassy (Chile)
This project aims to construct a building specifically designed for jam, pickle and sauce production and provide training for 60 Mapuche women in the techniques and associated health issues in production and commercialisaton of these products.
Revolving Commercialisation Fund
Financed by Aid to Artisans (USA) and the Andes Foundation (Chile)
In addition to the donation from the Andes Foundation (donated in 1995), the donation from Aid to Artisans was used to help continually support the revolving commercialisation fund which allows us to buy products from the same artisans that we educate, and therefore create a small selling co-operative. 120 women are commercialising constantly through the
fund.

providing internet training to organizations dedicated to benefiting the
local community or environment in developing countries.
The Chol – Chol Foundation
website was their first major project, and over the period of one year
this site you are viewing was contructed with their support.
Professional Volunteer Support From Canada
Financed by Horizon Cosmopolite (Canada)
and the Canadian International Development Agency
This project saw Chol – Chol
unite with partners in Canada, Horizon Cosmopolite to help attract high
quality professionals as human resources from Canada to the Chol – Chol
Foundation. The Canadian
agencies help to find and select suitable candidates which Chol – Chol
requires in order to advance its programs.
Furthermore they completely finance the volunteers to come to Chile
and provide their support. The
first volunteer arrived in September of 2000 for six months in order to
provide an in depth anthropological study of the effect of our work from
the communities’ point of view. This
is an on-going program.
2001
Cultivating the Capacities of the Woman –
Productivity and Self – Sufficiency Development in the Mapuche Woman
Financed by the Andes Foundation (Chile)
This project with a duration of
four years aims to train four hundred women in a variety of skills that
will help them to become more self-sustainable, create a micro-enterprise,
and improve their family welfare. The
project is divide in two cycles of two years, and during each cycle two
hundred women will participate in educational programs.
Each cycle is divided into two; the first part they will
participate in a number of practical educational courses which include
family health, horticulture, flower growing techniques, pig breeding,
chicken farming, environmental issues, food preparation, dairy farming,
organization skills, weaving and sowing.
This will help them to create more self-sustainability at home, and
help them to become organized. The
second part, will focus on them selecting one particular productive skill
and developing that skill into a micro-enterprise, for which they will
develop a min-project to implement at their homes.
Institutional Strengthening for the Chol – Chol
Foundation
Financed by the Ford Foundation
(USA)
This project is aimed at
consolidating the institution in its new stage.
The Foundation, recently converted to a Chilean Foundation, and
with a renovated Board of Directors, is being helped through this fund to
strategically organize its future, how best to implement its programs
effectively, how to create a sense of long-term planning, and how to
implement a sustainable fundraising program.
The fund is helping to provide professional consultation, staff
training, and general support to the Foundation’s activities.
