Tree Nursery "San Miguel"
The Foundation’s fully implemented tree nursery supplies its active Forestry Program with Pine and Eucalyptus seedlings, in addition to a variety of native trees. The process of nurturing a tree from seedling to a safe transplantation stage is very complex, and requires delicate work. Three staff are employed full time to carry out this delicate work.

In 1999, the tree nursery produced enough plants for the Program for 210 hectares (505 acres) of small forests. The plants produced were all from certified seeds, and showed extremely good growth and health when they were transplanted to the farmers’ land.

For the year 2000, it is estimated that the nursery will produce the following amount of plants:

  • 350,000 – Monterey Pine

  • 285,000 – Eucalyptus Globulus

  • 5,000 – Oregon pine

  • 5,000 – Cedar

  • 3,000 – Hazelnut
