Seventh Wave of Avanade Tech Grants Awarded
InterConnection is proudly partnered with Avanade to award refurbished computers to nonprofits educating youth across the country. With the technological resources provided via the Avanade Tech Grant, recipient organizations can accelerate their social impact to better serve their communities. We are thrilled to announce the latest recipient of the Avanade Tech Grant, who received their new devices this fall.
Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTM) is a 501c3 organization bridging the gap between the Black and Hispanic communities and the technology industry through job placement, career development, and networking opportunities. AUTM serves the community K-12+ focusing on increasing access to the internet, devices, digital and technical skills, tech career pathways, and social capital.
AUTM has met with various organizations, employers, and governmental departments to discuss the importance of digital equity in the 21st century and the correlation between the digital divide and the skills gap in the tech industry. In order to address these issues, AUTM launched their virtual workforce development cohorts, Texas Technology for All campaign, and online curriculum consisting of free educational content.
Michael Ward Jr., President and CEO of AUTM told us,” [The] majority of the learners we serve do not have access to the devices needed to accommodate online learning. Due to COVID-19, training and development programs have been moved online, creating another barrier for the communities that we serve. The Avanade Tech Grant opened up new opportunities for our learners looking to transition into the tech industry, move out of poverty, and become self-sustaining. The Avanade Tech Grant also allowed us to donate devices to American Youthworks who serves as risk youth through education, on-the-job training, and community service.”
