Laptops Create Opportunity for At-Risk Youth in New Jersey

1United Youth of New Jersey-edit Each quarter InterConnection awards grants to nonprofits in need of technology upgrades focusing on delivering vital services to underserved communities such as education, healthcare, technology and job training. These grants consist of any combination of laptops and desktop computers. One recent grant recipient, United Youth of New Jersey, received 4 laptops from InterConnection. United Youth of New Jersey is a safe-haven and a home away from home for all children. They operate an after-school learning center for at-risk youth as well as weekend and summer education and recreation programs. United Youth of New Jersey nurtures at-risk youth allowing them to grow and reach their full potential. They invite and involve parents and family members to engage whole families in productive, educational opportunities to help further create connections and bonds within the family unit. The programs at UYNJ include after-school, weekend academic enrichment, tutoring, and mentoring, as well as media programs (film, sound & music) for a TV show which airs three times a week in Elizabeth, Newark and Union County-wide. They also lead community service programs that allow children to interact with senior citizens to better understand historical and cultural perspectives, and other activities such as the drill team, drum corps, and theatrical dance programs. The laptops that were awarded through InterConnection’s grant program are currently being used for homework assistance and tutoring programs. It is only because of your astounding generosity that we are able to provide such grants. It really is YOU that makes the difference.
