InterConnection Computers Prepare Campers for College

Happiness Is Camping (HIC) is a free summer camp for children with cancer and their siblings. Their mission is to provide children with cancer and their siblings with a traditional residential camp experience with sophisticated medical care for campers both on and off treatment.
Computers Support STEM Education and College Readiness at CAMP
InterConnection awarded Happiness Is Camping with 4 desktops for use in their Counselor And Mentorship Program (CAMP). CAMPers are using InterConnection computers to learn computer programming skills to develop apps, research scientific topics, and create HIC’s end-of-summer slideshows. CAMPers are also using the computers to research colleges, explore majors, and start their Common Applications as they prepare for life after graduation!

Program Outcomes
Research has shown that adult survivors of pediatric cancer are up to 5 times less likely than their peers to attend college. HIC’s Counselor And Mentorship Program (CAMP) hosts 16 year old teens with cancer and their siblings for a four week program that provides a combination of STEM education, college preparation courses, life skills seminars, and workforce training to prepare CAMPers for adulthood.
Each year, HIC provides 5 sessions of summer camp, 2 sessions of family camp, and 4 sessions of the Counselor And Mentorship Program (CAMP) for teens nearing graduation.
