Development for the Poor(DP), a non-governmental voluntary organization, was established in 1984 with the initiative of a group of social and development workers having substantial experience of working at the grass-root level. Since its inception, the organization had been working for the overall improvement of the living conditions of the rural poor. The primary objective of the organization was to provide assistance for the improvement of the enhancement in the quality of life for all the vulnerable groups-the landless, marginal farmers, other rural poor, destitute women and their children, who constitute its target group.

Development for the Poor(DP) is a social development organization aspires for a society, where every individual will be able to live in atmosphere of peace and harmony i.e.free from exploitation , oppression and starvation where every individual will get equal and rightful share of resources belonging to their society. Ignorance with lack of scope and motivation in the target area is the main hurdle against their progress. The target people of the project are from the landless and poor families. They are deprived of education, denied their rights and scopes of independent life. The landless have almost nil access to increase earning skill and employment opportunity, which is the main reason of their low position in the society. The situation needs immediate intervention apparently with regard to community building and education. Empowering landless, oppressed people and women, human and skill development training and income generation to better the condition of these vulnerable groups. They should be assisted to become productive through their involvement in various productive activities. DP’s program are empower the landless people and women and establish the basic rights which leads to human rights and giving scope employment opportunity. DP animators regularly mobilize the target beneficiaries on the issues of social exploitation , family oppressions, wage rates, dowry system, early marriage, divorce, separation, desertion, polygamy, education facilities, taxes, basic needs, high rate of interest for loans, credit facilities, social security, legal education, human rights, other socio-economic bondage’s, as continuous process of conscientization. The basic education run by DP and completed with in 6 months and the credit support for micro enterprise provided as non consumable revolving loan at reasonable rate of service charge will be levied and the loan size will be Tk. 2000.00 each. DP is engaged with rural poor on conscientization program with a view to making them more conscious about socio-economic condition and play a vital role in finding out better position in the society for restructuring the present system. A process has already been started in the project area and people are more conscious and organized, than, before and putting their efforts whole-heartedly to be more consolidated and integrated and reflecting their programs in to actions through :

1.Awareness -based education program.
2.Village group meetings.
3.Inter-Village group discussions.
4.Different issue based group actions.
5.Group based income-generating activities.

Development for the Poor has the plan to provide services carefully, so that its grassroots based village organization can grow systematically with their own identify and entity.

Now, DP is in close touch with these organization for shifting its responsibility to the village groups in order to make them capable of managing and organizing their own affairs gradually without DP intervention.

with other organization’s, build up net working with other NGO’s, Showing interest some donor agencies,volunteers and exchange of information.
