InterConnection is proudly partnered with Avanade to award refurbished computers to nonprofits educating youth across the country. With the technological resources provided via the Avanade Tech Grant, recipient organizations can accelerate their social impact to better serve their communities. We are thrilled to announce the latest recipient of the Avanade Tech Grant, who received their new devices early this year.

Black Girls Do Engineer works to guide Black–American youth and young women (aged 9-21) toward success in STEM careers. Through their mentorship, programming, and advocacy, Black Girls Do Engineer hopes that 2 million Black-American girls will pursue and excel in STEM careers by 2050. By hosting coding and robotics camps throughout the year, they equip their students with valuable skills for bright futures in science, technology, engineering and mathematics based professions. Black Girls Do Engineer will use the awarded computers to be host additional STEM camps over the year, and will loan computers to students who do not have computers at home as they continue to provide virtual learning through the pandemic.

STEM Compass’ mission is to navigate, motivate, and educate underrepresented groups toward STEM-related majors and careers. Each year they provide engaging hands-on STEM programming to about 1000 students in grades K-12. Currently, they provide free workshops in robotics, drones, coding, artificial intelligence, and smart cities. Their real-world approach to STEM programming inspires students to question what’s possible, and prepares them for long-term success in the in-demand fields with leading companies. STEM Compass will use the awarded laptops to bring additional workshops to underserved students across Atlanta.
