InterConnection’s Computer Grant Program supplies computers to under-resourced nonprofit organizations on a quarterly basis. This quarter, we received 96 applications and are distributing 50 computers to 10 wonderful organizations across the country!

The grant committee reviewed each application carefully and based their decisions on the following criteria:

30% – Impact and Reach
25% – Technological Capacity of the Grantee
30% – Ability to Execute, Financial Capacity and Plan for Sustainability
15% – Organizational Need

Abilities of Northwest Jersey Washington, New Jersey
Abilities’ mission is to improve quality of life for individuals with disabilities, as well as improve their employability and integration into the larger community. Since its founding, Abilities has helped more than 500 individuals gain employment. Abilities’ helps create inclusive communities where disabled individuals have opportunities to reach their fullest potential personally and professionally. Abilities’ 6 desktop computers for both client and staff use, to research employment opportunities and provide program administration.

Child Abuse Prevention Association Beaufort, South Carolina
CAPA exists to break the destructive cycle of child abuse and neglect by equipping parents, children, and their caregivers with necessary skills, knowledge, and values. CAPA offers prevention and intervention programs including elementary education, safe sleep education, adolescent pregnancy prevention, parenting education, a parent support group, home visitation for at-risk families, and a home for abused and neglected children. Their 3 laptops will be used by outreach staff as well as for classroom use.

Community Youth Services Olympia, Washington
CYS empowers youth at-risk and their families to meet their goals for safety, stability, belonging and success by providing a continuum of individualized services and advocacy. CYS envisions every child growing up in a supportive home and community and achieving their full potential for personal growth. CYS will receive 4 desktop and 4 laptop computers for program administration and classroom use.

IRC in Seattle Seattle, Washington
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives, to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. IRC in Seattle will use their 8 laptop computers for local refugee families and individuals who are in need of computers to assist with job search and education.

Ironheart Foundation
Snohomish, Washington
The mission of Ironheart Foundation is to transform, empower and impact the lives of those affected with heart disease providing heart disease education, support and athletic inspiration. Their two laptop computers will be used to build Ironheart Learning, a free education program on topics that matter most to cardiac patients and caregivers utilizing subject matter experts from across the globe, as well as general administration.

Pumpkin Patch Preschool Stoughton, Wisconsin
Pumpkin Patch is a fully licensed and accredited preschool organized in 1973 by a group of parents in the Stoughton area who felt the need for a qualified preschool in the community. It is solely run by a board of volunteer parents. Pumpkin Patch offers preschool for children ages 3-4 and 4 year old kindergarten. Three desktop computers will be used by preschool students in the classroom.

Raise a Reader in Franklin County Winchester, Tennessee
Raise a Reader’s mission is to nurture the foundation of learning through reading by establishing a library in the home of all our children. They provide one age-appropriate storybook a month to all the children in Franklin County from birth to age five years old. Books are mailed directly to the child’s home, regardless of family income. Their two computers will be used to register children to receive free books and to create flyers and for general office use.

Scott County Boys & Girls Club Waldron, Arkansas
The Scott County Boys and Girls Club serves 400 youth ages 6 to 18. The club provides a positive place for Scott County youth after school and in the summer, and its mission is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. These efforts are guided by fourteen programs that emphasize character development and leadership skills and provide opportunities for members to learn new skills and socialize in a positive, safe environment. Their eight desktop computers will be used by club members to access online homework help websites and tutorials and to participate in online components of programs offered at the club.

South Sudanese Community Association of Utah Kearns, Utah
The South Sudanese Community Association of Utah (SSCAUT) is a community-based organization that focuses on challenges faced by South Sudanese families & youth by offering a variety of programs catered to the needs of refugee communities living in Utah. Their five laptops will be used in a computer literacy course that will reach over 155 refugees annually from six different refugee communities in the Salt Lake City area.

TechTown Foundation Chattanooga, Tennessee
TechTown provides education, training, career awareness, and access to high-quality technology for vulnerable youth residing in the Chattanooga community. TechTown’s mission is to level the playing field for all young people by providing access to a unique technology and entrepreneurial learning center; career awareness of the unlimited possibilities in technology fields; and 21st century workforce training via problem-based learning. They provide after school activities, summer camps, on-site training, and off-site workshops for both our home-schooled communities and vulnerable K-12 public schools. Their five laptop computers will be used for on-site classroom use, and in community centers for students to engage in hands-on STEM activities.

All of these organizations have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to making their community a better place to live. InterConnection will divide 50 computers amongst the 10 organizations based on need.
