Ladakh, or "Little Tibet" as it is known, is a wildly beautiful
desert region high in the Western Himalayas. It is a place of few resources and
an extreme climate, yet it has been home to a thriving culture for more than a
thousand years.
Experience a cross-cultural journey through the High Himalayan Mountains to
the isolated Ladakhi village of Lingshed where you will live and work with the
local monks and the Ladakhi people.
What You Can Expect
As a guest of the charismatic Ladakhi monk, Geshe Ngawang Jangchup, you have
been invited to live and work with the people of Lingshed. Geshe has
developed the Lingshed Area Project (LAP) which is working to support the people
of the Zanskar region through education, local doctors programs, sustainable
living, and preservation of culture.
Your task will be to trek in and out of Lingshed through the high Himalayan
Mountains with your local guide and translator from LAP and photograph and
interview local community members for the creation of the LAP website.
After your visit to Ladakh there will be extra days for visiting Delhi,
Leh the capitol city of Ladakh and the Taj Mahal in Agra where you will live
with a local family of marble workers who are the ancestors of the original Taj
Mahal builders.
