Community Youth Centre for
Computer and Internet Education (CYCCIE)
Bambili-Cameroon
Context of the project:
- Computers, their peripherals and software's
are very expensive in Africa and in Cameroon in particular.
- Most schools in Cameroon are computerless;
in the North West, this phenomenon is more acute.
- Many schooling children have never seen a computer
nor have an idea of what is called Internet or E-mail tool.
- Bambili is a rural suburb situated 12 kms out
of Bamenda town, the provincial capital. This community
is characterised by a very high concentration of education
& professional institutions (09 in total) with none
of them equipped with information technology put at the
disposal of students, teachers or lecturers.
- The CYCCIE project is designed to concentrate
its means in 01 centre, accessible to all the 09 youths
institutions, under membership and managed by ICF.
- Note that these partner schools and professional
training institutes are very closed in distance; the highest
distance is 1km.
Objectives of the cycle project:
- To contribute to an effective integral education
in Cameroon.
- To contribute in improving the quality of the
Bambili youths education, via Internet resources and CD-ROMs.
- To provide computers and Internet literacy
to the 09 partners schools in Bambili, North West Province
of Cameroon.
- To provide Internet access to these youths,
via the CYCCIE focal point.
- To contribute to a universal cultural exchange
through E-mail and Internet resources.
- To contribute in training generations of future
Cameroonian leaders.
- To contribute to the genesis of youth self-employment
activities (creation of cyber café, computerised
private secretaries, printing business.)
Target population:
- 03 secondary and high schools students
in Bambili
- 04 Higher education institution in Bambili
- 02 Agricultural training institutions in Bambili.
Outputs expected:
- 2500 youths trained per academic year, through
a membership approach. They shall be from the 09 partners
schools.
- 40 sets of Pentium II & III computers obtained
for training.
- 60 sets of Pentium II & III computers
obtained for Internet networking of the CYCCIE.

MSN, Internet timer, Internet cyberlog, winzip 8.0, Norton
antivirus 2001
Time-frame for the project's execution:
- From academic 2001/2002 up wards
Needed Resources:
- An in-kind contribution of: - 100 sets of Pentium
II & III of personal computers (either new, used, refurbished
or excess inventories us), valued at 150 US$ each, making
a total of 15.000 US $.
- 200 second hand chairs and tables.
- A cash contribution useable for: The purchase
of the CYCCIE networking materials: 19 991 US$
- The purchase of the CYCCIE electrical protection
tools: 2030 US$
- The purchase of 10 air conditioners for Internet
rooms: 2667 US$
- The purchase of software's: 1676 $
- The fees for networking of the PCs: 2000 US$
- A prepaid deposit for Internet connectivity:
4040 US $
- The telephone bills: 5506 USA $ / year
- The motivation allowance for the project animators
5200 US $ / year
- The fees for equipment maintenance: 11200 US

Total cash contribution for the start
of the project: 72,647 US $
Corporate fabricating Computers, foundations,
organizations or willing personalities partial or full contributions

Needy Children Centre (NECC)
Bamenda Cameroon
Nature of the problem:
Since 1990 they have been regular tribal wars
between some villages in the North West Province of Cameroon
bringing families to leave their respective villages and settle
in Bamenda, the provincial headquarter; when these families
arrive in town, parent don't easily have a means of living;
this situation forces children to move at random for survival
or even to be abandoned.
Another aspect of the problem
is that since 1990 there have been a constant reduction of
parents purchasing power, due to a persistent economic crisis
which has put Cameroon in the list of Very indebted poor countries.
With these 02 events, many children have drop-out-of
school, some abandoned, and all becoming social problems to
the community. We think that a needychildren centre (NECC)
can be a sustainable approach to overcome issues related to
this situation.
Objectives of the project:
- To serve as a secured and lovely home
for Needy children (NECC/Home)
- To facilitate a foster parenting or adoption
of needy children
- To serve as an interface between ICF,
the child's family of origin and the government through
the Ministry of social Welfare.
- To maintain a sustainable vocational
training centre for destitute adolescents and out-of-school
youths (NECC/VTC) fields to undertake: Tailoring, wood work
and home furniture, domestic electrification, plumbing,
computer technologies, domestic painting, poultry production.
Target population:
- Needy children under five
(abandoned orphans or children from very poor families)
- Street children
- Destitute adolescents
and out-of-school youths
Localization of the project:
Bamenda town-Cameroon, central Africa
Time-frame for the project execution:
The project is expected to be executed in three phases our
existing land of 2 ha.
- Phase I: Construction
of the Needy Children Centre's home (NEECC/Home) in Bamenda
town. This is to be done in years 2002 and 2003. Cost 73,143
US $.
- Raw plan of the NECC/HOME
- Phase II: In year
2004, the needy children school NECC/School shall be constructed
comprising: 03 classrooms for the start. The cost involved
in this phase is 26,000 US $.
- Phase III: In year
2005, the construction of thevocational training centre
NECC/VTC shall start; cost for the buildings 30,460 US $.
Corporate entities, foundations, organizations
or willing individual partial's contributions to this project
are welcomed. Financial and progress reports will be submitted
to donors on an ongoing bases or as requested.
The Needy Children's Home existence is a perquisite to move
to the next phones.

Computer and Internet literacy
in schools (CILS)
Nature of the problem: Schooling
youths of Cameroon in general and of the NorthWest province
in particular do not have access to modern information technologies
and the word of knowledge this convey. These permanently threaten
and hampers their human potential, as it perpetuates and widen
the gap between youngsters of the North West
Province of Cameroon and other nations' with access to computers.
The youths of this part of Cameroon must be exposed to it,
for a strong support for their education.
Objectives of the project:
- To provide at least 10 sets of personal computer
in each secondary school of the Northwest Province of Cameroon.
- To train the youths on computer and on Internet
technologies
- To create computer & Internet clubs in
partner schools
- To provide Internet connectivity for each school
club.
Outputs expected:
- The target population shall become familiar
with computer and information technology. Exposing and training
them in modern IT shall enhance the schooling youth's individual
potential.
- An increase in the possibility for raising
the living standards of the local population, through knowledge
that otherwise may never be available to them.
- It narrows the artificial gap that access to
information creates by being available only to populations
living in the most technologically advanced countries
- Additionally, corporate dealing with information
technologies have a golden opportunity to create new consumers
for their products, since these youths shall be trained
and become familiar with computer systems
Target population:
Youths attending secondary schools in the Northwest Province
of Cameroon, Central Africa. The total number of schools is
spread in 06 divisions. Each school shall receive at least
10 sets of computers.
Time frame for the execution:
The project is expected to be executed in three (03) phases
throughout the NorthWest province.
- Phase I: Academic
year 2001/2002In Mezam Division In Momo Division
- Phase II: Academic
year 2002/2003 In Ngoketundjia Division In Bui Division
- Phase III: Academic
year 2002/2003 In Menchum Division In Druga Mantun Division
Needed resources:
- An in kind contribution
of 720 (10 x 72) sets of Pentium II & III Personal computers
(either new used, refurbished or excess inventories) valued
at 150 US$ each, making a total of 108.000 US$.
- A cash contribution for
the transportation and delivery of 720 personal computer
sets to the target schools in the north west province of
Cameroon; the cost/computer set is valued at 30 US$ making
a total cash grant of 21.600 US$.
- A cash grant of 12 000
US$ This is a grant to establish an endowment fund for the
project general expenses during each phase (motivation allowances
for the project animators, security of equipment in each
school, Internet connectivity).
Total cost of the project: a

Corporate entities, foundations, organization or willing individual
partial's contributions to this project are welcomed.
Financial and progress reports will be forwarded to donors
on an on going basis or on request.

Books for Education - Cameroon
(BOFEC)
Nature of the problem:
- Books are very expensive here in Cameroon
- Many youths in schools ,college and universities
are from very poor families and do not easily access to
books (academic or general reading)
- Cameroon's Government does not pay much attention
to school libraries in general.
- Books for some specific academic fields are
very scarce
- We strongly believe that a book is never old
nor unusable.
Your generous donating of books to this project

Objectives of the project:
- To collect books and share
in Cameroon secondary schools and universities.
- To support Cameroon schools' library
- To support the creation and the functioning
of academic resource centres in Cameroon.
Outputs expected:
- Total number of schools and
colleges to benefit from the project: 317
- Total number of universities to benefit from
the project: 08
- Total academic resources centres to benefit
from the project: 05
- Each institution shall receive a minimum allocation
of 500 books academic year, making an annual total of 165
000 books received and shared by ICF.

for the transportation of books, deliveries, administration
fees and motivation allowances for the project animators,
who are all volunteers.

Rural adolescents and sustainable
development (RASD)
Nature of the problem:
- In most of the rural communities
in Cameroon, there is an increasing population of unemployed
youths/adolescents with no hope for future.
- Because of the consistent economic crisis in
Cameroon, many parents can not easily pay school fees to
their children, and they end up leaving school at their
adolescent age.
- Many graduate youths are today found in villages,
without any means of living, despite the existence of their
fathers land, because they don't have the technical know-how
and financial capital to start a project.
- This project is designed to answer these issues.
Objectives of the project:
- To train rural adolescents/youths for bee farming,
poultry production, potatoes production.
- To empower the youths in the west and north
west province for a solid technical know-how on rural productions
- To create an opportunity for self-employment
and revenue generating activities for the youths in rural
areas of the west and north west - Cameroon.
Outputs expected:
- 100 youths to be trained for
fee farming in the west and north west provinces (year 2002)
- 250 youths to be trained in poultry production
in the North West province (year 2002)
- 300 youth to be trained on potatoes production
in theNorth West and West Provinces (year 2002)
Target population: Rural
adolescent out of school and rural unemployed youths.
Needed resources:
- Training of 100 youths
for bee farming in year 2002
