BELIZE CITY LIONS CLUB

SHOWING PRIDE IN THEIR COMMUNITY

Belize City Lions Club members have committed themselves to the betterment of their community by partnering with Belize City Habitat for Humanity in the construction of Ms. Olga Miller’s house. The Belize City Lions Club has pledged a donation of $1,625 USD and a commitment of 250 man-hours in construction of the house. Club President, Mr. John Wongsam, stated that Habitat’s program offers a great opportunity for Belizeans to work together and to help themselves. The Belize City Lions Club and Belize City Habitat for Humanity are also partnering in the development of a proposal to Lions Club International to secure additional funding for construction.

For the past eighty years, Lions Club International has developed and supported projects benefiting the blind and disabled. It is the world’s largest volunteer service club with a network of 44,800 local clubs and 1.4 million members in over 188 countries. The Belize Lions Club has been serving Belize City for 29 years in many social arenas, most specifically, sight conservation. This year, the club will open a 14-bed hostel that will support patients receiving pre-op and post op procedures. This facility is located across from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for the convenience of patients and their family members and will be operated by the Belize Council for the Visually Impaired. The Belize Lions Club is definitely looking forward to a brighter future for all Belizeans with disabilities!
