Our Community
The Makueni district of Kenya is centered around the largest village, Kibwezi which has a population of approximately 100,000 people. It is a farming region in a zone of arid and semi-arid land. There are approximately 13,252 households, of which over 4500 are female-headed, single-parent. It is a diverse community of Christians, Muslims, and traditionalists. The village of Kibwezi is located 197 km east of Nairobi on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway. In addition to permanent residents, the community includes the presence of transients such as transportation drivers, travelers, and foreign-based NGO workers.
