About FARD
- Mission Statement
The Foundation Agency for Rural Development exists to provide opportunities to the rural poor and to
empower them to realize and assess their situation and to take appropriate actions toward self-management.
- Vision Statement
The Foundation Agency for Rural Development seeks to contribute to and participate in the harmonious
creation of rural communities that are fair, free, and empowered. We believe in and promote an
individual's inherent right to equal access to and control of available resources necessary for a
dignified life.
- Strategies and Principles
FARD is guided in its efforts by the following strategies and principles:
- Community Organization and Participation: since community members are at the heart of our efforts and
goals, their input and feedback is essential to providing appropriate and effective interventions.
- Sustainability: FARD strives to realize a capacity building process where participants seek effective,
lasting solutions that allow them to independently manage their lives.
- Replicability: FARD serves as a model in on-going evolution and development so that other communities
may adopt the same process and structure.
- Collaboration: FARD advocates and coordinates partnerships among organziations and networks in order
to promote resource sharing and to combat duplication of service.
- Universal Rights: We believe that all people, regardless of age, gender, religion, or health status,
deserve to live a dignified life and be empowered to articulate and meet their needs.

Our supporters
The foundation of our initiative lies in the participation of community members. The individuals who
commit their time, energy, and resources even when they are scarce provide the dedication that supports
the organization.
In addition to a international collection of individuals who have helped out in some way, FARD has and
continues to collaborate with a global network of supporters, including ActionAid, Kenya; the Kenyan
Agency for Rural Development (KARD), USA, Unicef; Kenyan Consortium of NGOs; Interconnection,
USA; and others.
